edge pic

Together with a Thailand-based Raya Divers Living Colours has put conservation of the oceans on top of their list of priorities and at first we'll concentrate on preserving the coral reefs all over the world.

Living Colours and Raya have given their support to project EDGE coordinated by Zoological Society of London. The title EDGE comes from ”Evolutionary Distinct and Globally Endangered” and the project aims to secure a future for evolutionary unique and at the same time globally endangered coral species. EDGE has several objects for conservation and securing the future of coral reefs is one of them.

The reason why we chose to support EDGE is, that it's very hands-on. Only concrete actions will bring concrete results! For example EDGE trains and financially supports leaders of conservation projects worldwide.

EDGE also arranges an annual training seminar concerning scuba diving, research and conservation. Conservationists from all over the world, for example Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines have taken part in this training. These countries are located in the area of so-called coral triangle, where there still are considerably vast areas of flourishing coral reefs and where preservation is extremely important.

raya bunaken1

Raya Goes Bunaken Exploration on September was great success according to all divers. Organizationg of the trip, hospitality of Living Colours Diving Resort and breath taking underwater views made the trip unforgettable experience.

In spring 2012 Living Colours Diving Resort and another Finnish dive operator Raya Divers put their wise heads together, and now was the time for the first dive adventure as a team. Thailand based Raya Divers introduced its regular guests to world known Bunaken National Marine Park and its huge variety of dive sites. Leader of the trip, marine biologist Markus Dernjatin, took divers even closer to the underwater world and its creatures with his expertise of the subject.

One of the divers was 39 years old Finnish woman Christa Winqvist, who attended the trip with her good friend.

- I read about the trip from Raya Divers' newsletter and told straight away to my friend that this trip is made for us! We have travelled together and been diving around the world but Bunaken was one place we never visited before, Winqvist tells.

When Winqvist and her friend found out that marine biologist Markus Dernjatin will be joining the trip, the decicion was easy to make.

- We thought that having a marine biologist on the same trip we will get the most out of the vacation. And we were right! It was amazing to have marine expert on the boat with us. After the dives there was always many guestions about the marine life and now we got the answers straight away, she raves.
